The Great Gatsby

The American Dream as portrayed in “The Great Gatsby”, is one of great self fulfillment. Gatsby was a man that everyone looked up to. People envied him but loved to be in the crowd of his outstanding parties. Gatsby represents the American Dream because he is very wealthy and is living better than most people. He is living the life that most people only dream of. Him achieving the American Dream came with a cost though. He was very unhappy. He used to put on a facade to make it seem as if he were happy but he was not. People were not aware of his unhappiness because people during this time felt like having money or being well off was all the happiness one needed. In this movie it showed that many people wanted to achieve the American Dream and they did not care about the consequences. Daisy’s husband was cheating on her but yet he had no remorse. He seemed to feel like because he had money he was able to do what he wanted. The movie portrays the Dream as being one that is attainable and one should be willing to achieve it at any cost. If it that meant smiling on the outside even when that is not how you feel on the inside. People in this film were very materialistic and cared about the finer things in life. Even if is meant staying in a relationship or marriage with someone you are not happy with.
